Downsizing. This is a large, old Shigaraki jar fired during the Momoyama period. Looking at the blackness of the clay and the shape of the jar, it feels like it could be from the late Muromachi period, but the completely rounded rim suggests it was made during the Momoyama period. I guarantee it is from before the Edo period. The natural glaze drips generously, and the "kirin's eye" (a glaze effect) appears near the foot. A faint "geta-in" (a type of potter's mark) can be seen on the foot. In the Edo period, Shigaraki jars became glazed, and the shapes lost their ruggedness, resulting in jars that lacked interesting features. However, this jar is from the period just before that change. Therefore, the scenery (the overall aesthetic) is impeccable. There is only a chip on the mouth, and there are no repairs or cracks.
