This is a kitchen tool used to make a spoon-sized hole in an eggshell. You place it on the top of the egg and pull the knob, then release it. The spring force seems to cleanly crack the shell. It appears to have some minor scratches, likely from storage, but I believe it's not a new item. It was at my parents' house, and they said they never used it.
