There don't seem to be any noticeable large stains, but there might be small ones, or faint ones that are barely noticeable. I didn't have the baby sleep directly on the sheet of the shikibuton, but used a separate cotton-top, waterproof-backed pad. It made changing the sheets easier. After using it for a year, the baby started sleeping in the same futon as the adults, so I stored it in a bag.
