TOMIX 98870 JR 24 Series 25 Type Limited Express Sleeper Passenger Car (Hokutosei, Mixed Formation) Basic Set [Actual Vehicle Overview] The Hokutosei was a sleeper limited express train that debuted in 1988 with the opening of the Seikan Tunnel, running between Ueno and Sapporo. It boasted luxurious amenities such as private sleeping compartments and a lobby car. When the Hokutosei service was reduced to one round trip in March 2008, the rolling stock used was changed, with cars 1-6 owned by JR Hokkaido and cars 7-11 and the power car owned by JR East. From February 2011, due to reasons such as securing spare cars, car 2 was changed to include an open B-class sleeper, and the distinctive-looking Ohanehu 24-500 series was mainly used. The regular operation of the Hokutosei ended with the timetable revision in March 2015, and since then, operation as a temporary train until August was only carried out with JR East-owned vehicles, so operation with a mixed formation ended around the same time.
