This is a miniature food container incense case (daikogo) finished with a lathe, using burl and mottled wood from Japanese ash (tamo). The finish is black lacquer, followed by chinkin (gold inlay). It is an expression of traditional Japanese craft techniques. The overall finish is a glass coat. Size: Outer diameter 9.4 cm, total height 5.0 cm, inner diameter 8.0 cm, depth 2.5 cm. Comes with a paulownia wood box and a brief history. Handmade by Yuji Matsuoka, a regular member of the Japan Kogei Association.
