Isetatsu Edo Inu Hariko (Paper Mache Dog) - Size 6 A traditional local toy representing Edo culture, the "Edo Inu Hariko" is also famous as a charm. Dogs are believed to have the power to ward off evil, and because they are prolific breeders and have easy births, they have been made since the mid-Edo period as "children's amulets" and "lucky charms for safe childbirth." There are generally two types: "those carrying a denden daiko (a traditional rattle drum)" and "those wearing a bamboo basket." This one is the former. Since the denden daiko has no front or back, it carries the message "May you grow into an honest child without hypocrisy."
