【Authentic】Ryuko Bi A Confucian scholar of the late Edo period from the Hikone Domain. Born in Fushimi, Yamashiro. His azana (courtesy name) was Kigyoku, and his gō (art names) included Sōro, Chikuan, Shōkiku Shujin, and Gotekio. He admired the studies of Ogyū Sorai and Dazai Shundai, studied under Uno Meika, served as a Confucian scholar in the Hikone Domain, and later returned to Kyoto to devote himself to writing. He was skilled in poetry and founded the poetry society Yūransha. He was also excellent in poetry, calligraphy, painting, waka (Japanese poetry), and Japanese prose.
