The textile pattern "Siena," designed by Alvar Aalto in 1954, is said to have been inspired by the cityscape of the Italian city that the Aaltos visited many times, and the Siena Cathedral located in the Piazza del Duomo. The "Sand / White" color scheme evokes the natural textures of wood and raffia fabrics, which Aalto favored when designing architecture and furniture.
