This work is a slightly larger version of the vintage No. 36, and is a vintage piece made around the same time (1980s). All of Winstanley's creations are wonderful, but the vintage pieces (works by Ms. Winstanley herself) are particularly outstanding compared to the more recent works (by her successors). Among them, the vintage Siamese cats are in a class of their own and are said to be her representative works. "Siamese" refers to Thailand. Siamese cats are a breed of cat native to Thailand, and were kept only in specific places such as the royal family and temples. In the late 19th century, the British consul stationed in Thailand brought them back to his home country, and they spread to the UK. Surely, such a background is connected to the noble atmosphere of this work. Ms. Winstanley's words, "Winstanley Cats bring life to gray" = "Winstanley Cats breathe life into clay" are perfectly embodied here, as a living cat is present. The good balance of the limbs and the sense of dynamism can be called a first-class work of art. The most distinctive feature of Winstanley Cats is their eyes.
