This is an early export model, likely made in the 1960s. My family member is battling an illness, so I'm releasing my S. Yairi collection. I don't like to use this word lightly, but this guitar was a real winner for me. It has a wonderfully aged sound that you wouldn't expect from a Japanese-made guitar, and it resonates beautifully. I think S. Yairi enthusiasts will be thrilled with it. I'm sad to see it go, but it has plenty of weather checking, so I hope someone will play it without hesitation. Here's a lengthy explanation, please read it: The headstock veneer is Jacaranda, and the tuners are covered. They aren't cheap; they're made by Gotoh. It's believed they were used experimentally on export models because Japanese-made Rotomatic tuners weren't available at the time. The fingerboard and bridge are rosewood. The neck block is unique, with a large beam, a feature found only on early export models. This is a rare S. Yairi with a working truss rod. The specifications of export models varied greatly depending on the period, so I won't make a definitive statement, but I believe the top and back are solid wood. The grain pattern is almost perfectly matched throughout, and compared to the S. Yairi models without model numbers from the same period, this one is significantly lighter and has the depth of sound characteristic of solid wood. I won't say for sure, but I'm almost certain it's solid wood. I've included photos of similar areas in the last two pictures. The scale is different, but the red lines indicate the same locations. The neck is almost straight, with room in the truss rod. The string height is approximately 2.4mm at the 12th fret on the 6th string and approximately 1.8mm on the 1st string. Because it resonated so well, the bridge plate has been reinforced, and the frets have been refretted. It's very easy to play, and the frets have plenty of life left. It will be shipped in a hard case via Yamato Transport. It's quite old and has various scratches, weather checking, and dents. Please purchase only if you understand and appreciate vintage instruments.
