As expected of Patagonia, the delicate fabric (Polartec) of this R1 is simply amazing. The square blocks provide insulation, and the gaps between the blocks allow moisture to escape, ensuring breathability. In the end, Patagonia products are so good that I can't bring myself to wear them in the mountains... Color: It may look navy on my smartphone, but it's black. Photo 9 is the closest representation. It's a different line from the popular Retro-X and Synchilla, which are more focused on casual wear. There are R1, R2, R3, and R4, with increasing insulation as the number goes up. However, since mountaineers sweat even in winter while climbing, it's not just about high insulation; the difference between this and cheaper fleece is how well it handles sweat. Currently, only the R1 series is available, and the others are no longer manufactured.
