Brief Biography of Shusaku Koyama Colonel in the Imperial Japanese Army during the Meiji and Taisho eras Born: June 1, 1862 Died: September 15, 1927 Birthplace: Nagaoka, Echigo Province (Niigata Prefecture) Education: Graduated from the Army War College Career: Born the third son of a physician of the Nagaoka Domain in Echigo. Became a Second Lieutenant in the Imperial Japanese Army and joined the Sino-Japanese Trade Research Institute established in Shanghai by Sei Arao while still in active service. After returning to Japan, he became a Captain and was assigned to the Imperial Guard Division and went to Taiwan. During the Russo-Japanese War, he served as the Military Governor of Fengtian. Later, he belonged to the General Staff Headquarters and dealt with issues related to China. He was promoted to Colonel but retired due to illness. He founded Nanyo Enterprise in Surabaya, South Seas, and later dissolved the company and merged it with Nan'a Company.
