This is an auction for the neck (sao) of a Yaeyama Kuroki sanshin. "1960, Iha(?)" is written in chalk on the core. It appears to have been stripped of its finish at some point, and pencil guide lines, likely from the time of manufacture, remain. There is a repair mark, possibly where a chip was filled in, on the back of the ten (head). There is a lot of shiratake (sapwood) overall, but there are black parts from the core to the kyomune (chest), and on the ten, so the black part may run through the center. It has a Makabe shape, but is slender like a Kuba bone, and weighs about 365g. It has a plump, rounded sound, but with a solid core, producing a sound suitable for folk songs.
