I deconstructed an Oshima Tsumugi kimono and made a jumper skirt with cute pockets. The original kimono was a very beautiful one, still with its basting stitches intact. (Photos 14-17) After deconstruction, it was only sterilized with a high-temperature iron. The same fabric as the lining (Hakkake) that is slightly visible from the hem (Photos 12 & 17) was used for the pocket edges. (Photo 3) When worn, the pockets are designed to puff out sideways. I referred to the works of Mitsuyo Yoshida, who introduces many wonderful clothes and bags using vintage clothing. It's an apron-type jumper skirt that you put your head through the straps. (Photo 13) The navy blue color with red floral patterns is cute. Small white flowers, stems, and leaves are drawn regularly, and the pattern is complex but has a clean design. The fabric has a sheen. The Oshima Tsumugi's characteristic smooth texture is comfortable and very light. Since the back of the kimono is used as is, I think you can stay warm in the coming season. I made the same design for myself, and it's very useful. I wear it layered over pants and a long T-shirt. In the photo, it's layered over a black long skirt. Deconstructing vintage clothing is difficult, but the good thing is that you can enjoy the unique colors and combinations of Japan. I enjoy dressmaking specializing in straight stitching. I am a complete amateur who enjoys remaking old kimonos, obi, and furoshiki such as Tsumugi, Meisen, and Komon.
