The wood is not charred to allow the material to breathe and easily regulate the internal humidity. The goal is to maximize the bees' vitality by keeping the environment as natural as possible. A hive box that allows for easy humidity control yields honey with higher sugar content. The comb support bars used in the extension boxes are 8mm thick and fitted into place. In our hives, the comb support bars are arranged in a parallel fashion, and the extension boxes are stacked so that the bars alternate horizontally and vertically. This arrangement minimizes the number of bars that bees dislike, while achieving an effect similar to a grid pattern. It also makes it easier to insert blades, such as knives, when harvesting honey. The entrance box uses a slide-type entrance board, allowing for easy inspection of the interior. The board typically creates an entrance of 6mm in height. By flipping the entrance board upside down, you can confine the honeybees, which is convenient for transportation.
