The inscription mentions the Kamakura period, but I don't understand it. According to the previous owner, the fact that such hard wood has become so light suggests it's as old as the ink inscription indicates. It's undoubtedly old wood from Todai-ji Temple, and given its shape, I believe it has considerable value. You should be able to find similar items with a search, but most are just plain boards. Because of the insertion shape, I believe this was a decorative part, perhaps used like a *kibana* (wooden bracket) on a gable. The last two images show the current state of Hongan-ji Temple and the adjacent Kōshō-ji Temple. Height: Approximately 40.5cm As shown in the images, there are cracks, chips, and scratches. The size is approximate. The actual item may differ slightly in color from the images. Being old, it has age-related wear, scratches, and soiling.
