These pickups are made using an old automatic winding machine inherited from a craftsman who has supported Japanese pickup production for many years. Instead of a bar magnet, it uses rod magnets, the same type used in single-coil pickups, embedded in a configuration that resembles "two single coils placed side-by-side to form a humbucker." In humbucker mode, it sounds like a thick single-coil rather than a typical humbucker, and in coil-split mode, it produces a single-coil tone. The resistance value is set higher, but this is because thinner coils are wound more times than commonly used coils, which tends to increase the resistance.
