It's a heavy, glazed stoneware piece, and besides being used as a butter case, it seems it was also used for oven dishes like terrines. As it's an antique, there's some dirt on the bottom, and there are minor scratches that are hard to see unless you look closely, but the condition is good. I received this from someone who collected French antiques, but I haven't had many opportunities to use it, so I've been storing it. I'd like to pass it on to someone who will use it.
