Pure silk Length: Approximately 436cm Width: Approximately 31.5cm This is a stunning fukuro obi featuring a black background with a tortoiseshell pattern, and woven with vibrant threads depicting circular motifs of seasonal flowers such as peonies, chrysanthemums, plum blossoms, wisteria, daffodils, and irises. The weaving is plump, like embroidery, giving it a luxurious feel. Although there are no markings, it is believed to be a high-quality item from a well-established Nishijin weaver. Based on the width and length, it is likely a full-patterned fukuro obi, but the construction is slightly unusual, with a picture frame style. Please refer to the images. Since it is a full-patterned obi, unlike a six-patterned obi, there are no pattern stops, making it suitable for various decorative tie styles. It would be lovely paired with furisode (long-sleeved kimono) for coming-of-age ceremonies, weddings, or for young women's iro-muji (single-colored kimonos) or visiting kimonos. As the same fabric is used for the lining of the te-saki (hand section) and tare (hanging section), the lining will not show even when tied in a decorative style, making it very luxurious. I had intended to shorten the width and use it as an obi for Shichi-Go-San (a festival for children), but it felt wasteful, so I used another obi. As it is a used item, there are fold marks from being tied in half, and some minor thread fraying characteristic of Karaori (a type of woven fabric), but there are no noticeable flaws when worn, and it is still a piece that can be used in formal settings. This is a used item stored at home by an individual, so it is different from new items handled by kimono stores.
