They have been washed, but please refrain from purchasing if you are concerned. There are no cracks or chips that I can see. I think they are in a clean condition, but please understand that there is some soot on the back of the pot that was present from the time of purchase. It seems that one go (about 180ml) of rice can be cooked in this pot. Oginoya's website also introduces how to cook rice using the empty Kamameshi pots.
