Originally, Kagura was danced by ancient people to pray for good health and rejuvenation of the soul. It is said that this ritual of soul pacification and purification is the origin of various Shinto performing arts. A mold is made with clay, Japanese paper is carefully layered, and a mixture of gofun (calcium carbonate) is applied, followed by coloring. There is a unique smell when held in the mouth.
