Hanaka-gesho is an art dealer with three departments that handle artists and works that are particular about their techniques. "Nezu Netsuke-ya" is a specialty store for contemporary netsuke artists. We mainly handle netsuke, portable decorative art works that developed uniquely in Japan since the Edo period, as well as ojime (beads) and related books. "Wa-komono Hanaka-gesho" sells mainly small works such as artist-made obi-dome (sash clips) and obi-kazari (sash ornaments) that make wearing kimono more enjoyable, fun-to-use sake vessels and lidded containers, and ornaments. "Hanaka-gesho Exhibition Room" is a space for exhibiting craft works (netsuke, sculptures, metal crafts, lacquer art, ceramics, etc.). We hold exhibitions about 10 times a year, and provide opportunities to interact with the works and artists, such as artist-in-residence events. *In Japan, there is a genre called "KŌGEI" (crafts) that does not distinguish between art and craft. These are works of practical use that have been given special decoration and carving, and their value has been increased. The works handled by our gallery are precisely "KŌGEI" works.
