His first name was Masahiko. After dropping out of the Ceramics major at Kanazawa College of Art, he studied under the first and second generations. He succeeded to the third generation in 1988. In 1991, he received the Grand Prize and the Chichibunomiya Cup at the 11th Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition. On June 6, 1997, he was designated as a holder of the Important Intangible Cultural Property "Colored Glazed Porcelain" (Living National Treasure). He has a strong individuality in the vivid ultramarine color adjusted with glaze. He has also presented many works overseas and received high praise.
