In good condition, no damage. This is a slender, medium-sized natsume (tea caddy). The maki-e (lacquer work) depicts a fan with pine, bamboo, plum, and probably narcissus. I think the maki-e is quite well done. Pine, bamboo, plum, and narcissus together are sometimes referred to as the "Three Friends of Winter," the three plants that endure the cold of winter. There seems to be a pattern where narcissus replaces pine. They are called that because they maintain their green color and bloom even in the cold of winter. As for me, I can't get out of my futon in the winter and just curl up (lol), but I'd like to emulate them. In any case, their dignified appearance, unconcerned by the winter cold, is very cool and beautiful, I think. The artist is Mihou Okuno, a Wajima maki-e artist.
