I love Miyakojima, and in the past few years, I've gone twice for a one-night, two-day trip in the spring. I rented a car and saw breathtaking, beautiful scenery I'd never seen before scattered all over the island. Snorkeling is also great, and each beach has its own unique character. There are beaches where you can see turtles from the sandy shore, and beaches teeming with tropical fish when you put your feet in (these fish don't run away, haha).
