The guitar for sale is a No. 10 made by Yukinobu Chawai in 1975. It is a masterpiece equivalent to the No. 30 of Chawai guitars made after 1990. Until around 1980, the Chawai workshop made all guitars by hand, from the shaping and cutting of materials to assembly, finishing, and painting, making them true handmade guitars. After around 1981, mass production began, the number of apprentices increased, and the workshop became more specialized, leading to a mass-production system. The guitar for sale is a masterpiece made during the peak of the Chawai workshop. This period is characterized by a Santos Hernandez-style headstock and a unique rosette, offering a flavor and tonal resonance not found in mass-produced guitars. Chawai guitars made until around 1980 are said to be particularly superior in terms of craftsmanship and tone within the history of Chawai guitars. Also, Chawai guitars made under the mass-production system from around 1981 are characterized by a Fleta-style headstock, with some exceptions, and the production year can be distinguished by the shape of the headstock. The top is a solid German spruce with tight grain, the sides and back are solid rosewood with beautiful straight grain, the neck is hard mahogany, the fingerboard is jet-black ebony, and the bridge appears to be straight-grained rosewood. The heel joint is German-style, and there are no side braces, but the grain of the top and back seem to match, suggesting it is all solid wood. Furthermore, the acoustic effect of the German spruce and rosewood produces the brilliant, rich, and powerful tone of a Chawai guitar from its peak period. Although it is a half-century-old guitar, it is in good condition with no noticeable scratches or dents. Also, new strings for trial playing have been installed, so you can start playing it immediately. Unfortunately, Yukinobu Chawai passed away in August 2011, and the Chawai Guitar Workshop was taken over by his second son, Yukihiro.
