This is a set of two corner trays by woodworker Shichi Ochiai. Size: 30cm The appeal of Ochiai's work lies in the meticulous finish, which leaves clear marks of hand carving with a round chisel. There is a slight undulation, a "beauty that is not perfect" that can only be achieved by hand. Ochiai holds exhibitions throughout the country, but there are restrictions on the number of pieces that can be purchased, making his work difficult to obtain. This is because most of the process is finished by hand carving, making mass production difficult. I purchased these at a solo exhibition after traveling a long distance.
