I have remade an antique, reused obi (sash) into a tote bag.
The reason for the "as-is" condition is that the black fabric of the obi has a slightly fuzzy appearance, as if it has collected dust. (See photo 8). Attempts to remove it with a lint roller were unsuccessful. I believe this is the original texture of the obi fabric. The lining has the same issue. The sewing is not problematic.
If this is acceptable, I hope you will enjoy the bold antique pattern.
The lining is made from the obi's backing fabric, and it includes a magnetic button and a pocket.
The handles are made from obi cord.
The bottom has a core sewn in, making it sturdy and preventing it from losing its shape, allowing it to stand on its own.
It seems suitable for people of all ages and can be used for both casual and formal occasions.
The size is perfect for holding a water bottle, either standing up or lying down.
I think it can be used for lessons, outings, or as a sub-bag for weddings and other formal events.
It will look great with both Japanese and Western clothing.
