The ballet depicts a vortex of love and jealousy surrounding a beautiful young woman, Manon. Despite the tragic story where no one finds happiness, the dramatic development and acrobatic choreography have captivated many ballet fans. The music is composed by picking up various works of Massenet, who also composed the opera of the same original work, and Martin Yates has given it a new orchestration, resulting in a very sophisticated and unified finish. The stage simply depicts the contrast between the classical costumes, the elegant Paris, and the desolate swamps of Louisiana, America, where Manon and Des Grieux flee. The moving pas de deux in Act III by the popular duo of Sarah Lamb and Vadim Muntagirov, and the drunken performance in the second act brothel by our very own Ryoichi Hirano as Lescaud, were highly acclaimed.
