Kendo bamboo dou (body) with 60 bamboo slats, finished with a mother-of-pearl (aogai) lacquer. This is a refinished dou, with the original body polished and re-lacquered. The mother-of-pearl application is lavish, using about three times the amount of shells as a commercially available aogai-nuri dou. This is a new dou, with more shells applied than commercial versions, and because there are no intermediaries like retail stores, I can offer it at this price. The size should be suitable for most adult men. Opening: 42 cm. The photos taken from the front don't fully capture the blue hue due to the lighting, but the side view shows the color better, so please take a look. The chest (mune) is a rare and valuable 8-rin (stitch length) Mitsu-kumo (three clouds) design. The stitching is purple, and the decorative design on the chest is the same as that of a teacher who has won the All Japan Kendo Championship six times.
