Yamasen Railway: Notomasa Tomochi Private Edition Print Collection This is a set of extremely rare privately published prints and related materials themed on the Oji Light Railway (officially, the Oji Paper Tomakomai Factory Private Railway) in Hokkaido, commonly known as the "Yamasen" (Mountain Line). The "Yamasen" was a narrow-gauge (762mm) private railway that ran between the Oji Paper Tomakomai Factory and Lake Shikotsu from 1908 to 1951, extending approximately 40km. It was used to transport materials for power plant construction and timber, but later allowed general passengers, contributing to the development of both Tomakomai and Lake Shikotsu. This print collection features Mr. Masatomo Noto's unique woodblock prints (or woodblock-style prints) depicting the scenery of Lake Shikotsu, the railway, and the industrial heritage that the Yamasen Railway traversed. The set includes the main print collection, which contains six works depicting the Yamasen Railway's small steam locomotives, tunnels, and the scenery of the light railway running through the vast nature of Hokkaido, all rendered in powerful monochrome print style, housed in a blue envelope. In particular, the commentary materials detail the Yamasen's historical background, such as the fact that the "Yamasen Iron Bridge," the oldest existing steel bridge in Hokkaido, is registered as one of the 33 groups of Japan's Modern Industrial Heritage, and that the small steam locomotives were manufactured in Otaru.
