This is a "bowl" by the ceramic artist Chitojin Sawada. The vermillion red color with gold design makes this a striking piece. ■Artist Chitojin Sawada (1902-1977) originally studied Japanese painting and researched dyed textiles in Kyoto. In 1960, he moved to Ureshino, Saga, and became a ceramic designer. In 1968, he participated in the founding of Imari Toen, a manufacturer that still carries on his work.
