There are no signs of wear, so I believe it's an unused item. I've cherished it, but I haven't been able to bring myself to wear it. There are no noticeable stains or blemishes. I'd like to pass it on in beautiful condition. Bashofu, a traditional Okinawan craft, is a source of pride for the world. The techniques of Bashofu, which were lost during the war, were revived through the efforts of Living National Treasure Toshiko Taira. In 1974, the Bashofu of Kijoka, Ogimi Village, Okinawa Prefecture, was designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Japan. The "Kijoka Bashofu Preservation Society," led by Ms. Taira, is recognized as the holding organization. The Ito-basho (banana fiber) enjoys the wind of the East China Sea and the sun of Okinawa. All the materials are made from nature in Okinawa. To weave one bolt of fabric, about 200 Ito-basho trees are cut down, and it takes over 20 processes, all done by hand, taking more than six months to complete. Photos have their limitations. The condition is an overall assessment. Handmade items have a unique quality that is rare in this day and age, and there are probably no two exactly alike.
