This is a Hotei figure I purchased at an antique market about 20 years ago. His smiling face is very impressive, and that's why I brought him home. Ordinary Hotei figures have narrow eyes and are smiling, but this Hotei has his eyes wide open. The shop owner told me that he is said to be able to see into the future, and that this type is quite popular. The material appears to be kneaded. It has a substantial weight.
