This is a component bass using a TOKAI JAZZ Sound neck. The neck is made by TOKAI, likely made in Japan around the 1990s. The craftsmanship is excellent, and I was personally quite surprised by it. It has a quarter-sawn neck and a high-quality, tight-grained rosewood fingerboard. Considering this quality, I suspect it may have been a semi-custom order at the time. Even now, after years of aging, the neck remains almost perfectly straight, and the truss rod has room to tighten. It has the stability you'd expect from a neck that has been used for many years. The body is likely alder. It's a nice-looking piece with visible wood grain, and I was planning to strip the paint, but I haven't had time to do it yet. The sound has a very full low-mid range, making it stand out in a band ensemble and it has been used in live performances. The pickups have been replaced with Fender USA ones, resulting in a more Fender-like and user-friendly tone. The original tuners were damaged, so Chinese-made ones are currently installed. They are a bit stiff to turn, but there are no problems with normal use. Overall, this is a player's condition instrument. Recommended for those who understand component basses.
