Size 40 is 25cm, but even with thick socks, they fit me (25.5cm) without any pain, and I walked in them. I'm not sure how they would fit others. I wore them for a one-night trip, only from evening dinner and bar hopping (about 5-7 hours). I wore slip-ons in the car and changed into the boots several times at service areas.
