These "one-of-a-kind" "tsuikido-ki" (hammered copperware) pieces can last a lifetime. These traditional crafts are becoming increasingly rare. Shimakura-do makes truly wonderful copperware, and we use a lot of it in our home. Currently, these products are mostly made to order. We have more than we can use, which is a waste, so we are offering them at a reduced price. Please use them as lifetime pieces. "Tsuikido-ki" (hammered copperware) was actually introduced in the late Edo period by traveling craftsmen from Sendai and developed in Tsubame City, Niigata Prefecture. Shimakura-do is a workshop that produces tsuikido-ki products. The tsuiki technique is now the foundation of the world-renowned "Tsubame brand," but there are only a handful of workshops that carry on the tradition. Shimakura-do is one of these very rare workshops, founded by the previous generation who trained for 15 years at Gyokudo, a leading tsuiki workshop. They have passed down the technique of hammering and shaping a single copper plate over two generations, pursuing perfect forms, even making their own tsuiki tools. The products born from the hands of craftsmen and original tools are truly "one-of-a-kind." A kettle, where even the spout is hammered by hand, takes even a skilled craftsman about a month to produce. Shimakura-do is the one that sends out these unique masterpieces to the world.
