This is the AC105, a late model in the Guyatone AC series, a super best-selling power supply. The Guyatone AC series has a 5m power cord, which is excessively long. This unit has been modified with a new power cord of a more appropriate 2m length with a soft feel. The AC outlet jack has also been replaced with a vintage-style rubber cap jack, improving its appearance. The AC series is valuable because it uses a transformer-based power supply, unlike the currently mainstream switching-type power supplies. Transformer-based power supplies are known to produce less noise and are often said to provide a more energetic and punchy sound, with a forward presence and clearer definition compared to switching-type power supplies. The AC105 significantly improves upon the low amperage capacity (maximum 80 mA) of the earlier AC-101 and AC-102 models, offering a maximum capacity of 500 mA. It provides 9V output through 8 jacks, and 18V output is no longer available. All jacks output nearly uniform 9.86-9.87V, close to 10V. This is remarkable. Since the output of a new 9V battery is around 9.6V, it's like constantly supplying power with a new battery. This may contribute to the punchiness of the sound. When powering distortion-based effects, which are prone to noise, this unit provides a low-noise, punchy distortion.
