This is a very rare trumpet mouthpiece made by Dominique Calicchio. It is estimated to be from the 1940s, during his New York period. The original shank is slender, and because it would bottom out on many current trumpets, it has been sleeved by Bob Reeves Brass. *A separate Bob Reeves sleeve is required for playing. The original plating was believed to be nickel, but some of the base metal was showing through, so it was replated (silver) under the condition that almost no buffing would be done. As a result, the rim has fine irregularities like a matte finish. When I entrusted it to Bob Reeves Brass, I had them check the specifications (what Bob Reeves specification it corresponds to), and I received a response that it was "equivalent to 41B692s". It has a slightly smaller rim, a somewhat voluminous cup, and a slightly tight backbore. It has a very rich tone and excellent response, making it a comfortable mouthpiece to play. It would be a good match for vintage instruments, and I think it will produce a distinctive and individual sound even when paired with current trumpets. Dominique-made mouthpieces are rarely seen on the market these days, but I hear that Freddie Hubbard in combo and Walt Johnson in lead used them. Some of Jerome Callet's mouthpieces are based on Dominique-made mouthpieces. My main size is around 42-43, which is larger than this rim, so I have kept it stored away. I am offering it for sale to someone who can actually use it, or to someone who has been looking for a Dominique-made mouthpiece. Please note that it may take a few days to ship.
