This workshop is offering a superb condition 1967 Nikkan cornet, acquired after a 5-year hiatus. While it's a more affordable model of the Imperial Cornet CR-1, it's also a significant instrument, having been sent to the American market as the YAMAHA YCR-231 cornet. Nikkan cornets differ from Yamaha models in their tubing configuration. The Nikkan design adds a 180-degree bend in the tubing just before the connection from the lead pipe to the 3rd valve casing, producing a mellow tone reminiscent of a short model. This design has one more coil compared to Yamaha's. (Comparison photos available) In recent years, long-type cornets have become increasingly rare, and it's becoming difficult to find well-maintained long cornets, especially those with a traditional wrap like the CR-2. In brass bands, cornet parts are present in pieces by Sousa and Reed. Many players substitute with trumpets or short cornets, but a long cornet is ideal for faithfully reproducing the composer's instructions. This instrument has been modified to allow for pitch correction during playing by rebuilding the 1st and 3rd slides, which were previously inoperable. The 1967 model was made during a period when the Nikkan factory still relied heavily on handcrafting by skilled artisans, and the care taken in its construction rivals that of current top-of-the-line Yamaha models. The engraving on the bottom cover of the piston valve is a key identifying feature. ★Customization Details ■ 1st slide reversed, thumb hook added ■ 3rd slide equipped with a stopper function The stopper function, similar to those used by Holton and King, has been installed. ★Items Included ・Cornet body ・Mouthpiece (Nikkan) - Short mouthpieces can also be used. ・Hard case (YAMAHA) ★Condition ・The lacquer is approximately 90% intact, making it a remarkable condition for a 1967 cornet. ・Noticeable dents have been repaired. (The quality of the workmanship has been well-received) ・The slides and piston valves function smoothly, with no issues in airtightness.
