Shiraishi Washi was promoted by the Sendai Domain's industrial promotion policy, and its production developed as a side job for farmers during the winter. It is said that there were 300 papermaking farmhouses during the Edo period. Shiraishi Washi is strong and durable, and is processed into paper clothing, business card holders, handbags, and other items. Currently, there are only two workshops that make washi paper products: "Sato Shikoshi Kobo" and "Yoshimi Shikoshi Kobo," but each is producing various works that make the most of the characteristics of washi paper.
