I obtained a branch of true Japanese spindle (Euonymus japonicus) for the garden's kamidana (Shinto home altar) and carved a statue of a horse, the zodiac animal for next year's toshigami (New Year's deity). It's a charm, a horse for warding off evil, with only the upper part of the horse (removing "ma" = warding off evil). Onyx, a natural stone, was set in the eyes, 4mm in size, two pieces.
