Toyo Enterprises Co., Ltd., the creator of Sugar Cane, was established for US military personnel stationed in Japan, coinciding with the full-scale involvement of the US military in the Vietnam War. Initially, the company manufactured clothing for the US military and also acted as a distribution channel for US military surplus within Japan. After the Vietnam War ended, the company transitioned into a clothing manufacturer solely for the domestic market. At that time, it was named "SUGARCANE" by an officer stationed at a US military base. Although Sugar Cane was born in Japan, its spirit and manufacturing know-how are American-style, as it grew up catering to US military bases.
