The instrument is called an Irish piccolo or Fife. It is a soprano D flute with a tuning slide. I used it for Irish sessions for about a month, but I'm getting rid of it because the high notes make me feel dizzy when played nearby. It has the same pitch and fingering as a tin whistle. The sound will vary depending on the person, but it has a slightly rougher sound, closer to the sound of a Colin Goldie tin whistle than a Michael Burke tin whistle. For me, the volume was the same as a tin whistle. It is a used item, so there are small scratches, etc., but there is no pad lift and it can be used normally.
