This is a set of three small plates featuring gold leaf clouds depicting Genji clouds on black lacquerware. When held up to the light, there are many thin, fine scratches, but they are not very noticeable during normal use. Please check the photos from the fourth image onwards. Diameter: 13.5cm Genji clouds (genji-gumo) are a cloud pattern in the shape of a suhama (sandbar), often depicted in Yamato-e paintings, such as the "Tale of Genji Picture Scrolls," in the upper part of the screen or in the space. They are mainly expressed with gold leaf or embroidery and are used as a decorative effect to represent the passage of time and space, scene breaks, and as a classical pattern that creates an elegant and refined atmosphere, often used on formal kimono such as tomesode and homongi.
