Body diameter: approx. 65mm, Height: approx. 60mm, Mouth diameter: approx. 60mm As written on the inside of the wooden box lid, this item was a gift from an acquaintance in Osaka to my father in September 1945 and is unused. The maki-e cranes are finely depicted with a total of 15 small cranes: 9 on the lid and 6 on the body (lower part). The pine-eating crane maki-e is a very auspicious pattern combining cranes, symbolizing longevity, with pine, symbolizing eternal youth and longevity. The rim around the mouth is finished with gold maki-e. I have looked at various pine-eating crane maki-e works online, and a characteristic feature is the depiction of many red-headed red-crowned cranes, which are not seen in other works. Cranes with red heads are considered auspicious items. Although there is no artist's name on the box inscription, I believe this is a rare piece. Based on the color scheme of the lacquerware, it is likely Wajima-nuri. This is a long-term home storage item, so please judge its condition by looking at the images. The colors in the images may appear to change due to light reflection. Please refrain from purchasing if you are looking for a perfect condition item or are sensitive about details.
