Set of 4 shell-shaped small plates from Fukagawa Seiji (Arita-yaki), "returned goods" made for export. The back is marked "HAND PAINTED," indicating they are hand-painted items from an older era. The plates feature a graceful shell form on soft white porcelain, with gold trim around the edges. The gold is remarkably well-preserved, showing almost no peeling despite the passage of time, and remains in beautiful condition. Some plates have lines, but they are not felt as cracks when touched, and it is unclear whether they are from the manufacturing process or due to aging.
