A long time ago, when Bali wasn't yet a tourist destination and people in Japan were worried about traveling to Indonesia, I was drawn to the music and art of Bali and visited a region in Ubud where many craftspeople gathered. Among them, there was a workshop of a craftsperson who was silently carving birds and fish, and I made a purchase. It was a rare piece, made entirely from a single piece of wood, unlike the common method of assembling pre-made parts. The water bird had the sharp, watchful eyes of a wild bird, and its careful coloring and beauty were exceptional. The size is probably life-size, and I think it would look great as an object wherever you place it. The tropical fish is also more realistic than cute, with details like the mouth. When I asked about the hole in its belly, I was told it could be used as a napkin ring. I brought them back to Japan carefully to avoid damage and have kept them in a glass case or box.
