This is a US Navy sailor hat, also known as a "Dixie cup" or "Serpico hat." It is made in the USA and is a deadstock, unused item that has been re-dyed. The dyeing was done by a professional dyeing specialist, not a simple home dyeing process. The color is black, but it's not pure black; it's a finish that leans towards dark gray to sumi-black. Each piece has a slightly different finish and texture, giving it a handmade feel. Therefore, consider this hat a one-of-a-kind item, as no two are exactly alike. Shrinkage has occurred due to the re-dyeing process, making the actual size about one size smaller than the original. The contract label has also been dyed, so the size information on the label is unreadable. Please understand this. Color-fastening treatment has been applied, so significant color fading is unlikely, but it's recommended to wash the hat separately for the first few washes to be safe.
