This is a 5-sho ceramic Ryukyu awamori koshu (aged awamori) jar. It's an empty jar wrapped with shuro rope. I used it at a welcome event at work this May. Awamori koshu jar/koshu urn. The bottle features a Ryujin (Dragon God) design with a cloud dragon relief, considered auspicious in Okinawa, and the design of the Ryugu-shin dragon. It's a design you don't see much these days. I was told the jar is relatively new, from last year. *The appeal of koshu (aged awamori) is that it can be aged over time to become a flavorful "koshu"! By letting it age in bottles (kame) or jars, it develops a sweet aroma, and the texture when drinking becomes mellow. How about using it for something other than koshu, such as an antique or interior decoration? (In Okinawa, some people use them as large garden objects.) It has been cleaned. I filled it with water, put the lid on, and checked for leaks by applying pressure. There is almost no smell of alcohol. There are no cracks, scratches, or stains, and it is in a clean condition, but there is some dust that has accumulated from being stored at home for over five months.
